International “Oil and Gas” exhibition

 “Russian valenki” museum participated from June 23 to June 26 in the 10th international oil and gas exhibition “Oil and Gas” / MIOGE 2009 in the Expocentre. This is the largest exhibition of the leaders of home and world oil and gas industry in Russia:
  • 1,000 companies-participants from 40 countries
  • 700 delegates of the 7th Russian Oil and Gas Congress 25,000 sq. m of the display area
  • 30,000 visitors-specialists of oil and gas branch.
Interactive “House of Crafts” was functioning at the exhibition. There pottery and blacksmith crafts were represented as well traditional wooden toys and weaving. Museum exposition contained painted and embroidered valenki, and the visitors could try themselves in the role of designers.

A unique collection of lapti in «Russian valenki» museum
  Over forty types of bast shoes (lapti) collected throughout Rus by H. N. Tupikova impress with the variety of the form of weaving.
Lapti along with valenki constitute old footwear. It is considered that Russia was “the country of lapti” till the beginning of the 20th century. However, lapti and onuchi are used even today. In some remote places they are used if necessary. And city youth, attracted by the modern ethnostyle, starts using lapti because this is comfortable and natural footwear.

The results of the competition “Valenki – our Russian fairy-tale!”

Recently the award ceremony of a regular competition for children has taken place in the museum “Russian valenki”. This time children made up fairy-tales and created their own heroes: valenok – cottage for a fly, valenok – a fortress for a kitten, valenok–man, valenok–woman…
The ceremony was a merry one: little singers sang fervent chastooshkas about valenki, little tale-tellers read aloud their fairy-tales – and it was all accompanied by the giving out of diplomas, gifts and eating of candies!

Zhukov’s valenki came back to the museum

A unique exhibit has arrived in the collection of the museum – valenki of the Marshal of the Soviet Union G. K. Zhukov. These valenki warmed the legendary commander in the hard winters of the great Patriotic War. For several years these valenki were exhibited in the “Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941 – 1945”. Now they, being soled and shabby, hold an honorary place in the museum “Russian valenki”.

Museum “Russian Valenki” was visited by a group of children from Germany

School No. 594 of YAO of Moscow has for already 10 years been a twin of a Berlin school. Every year groups of children from the two capitals come to see one another. Cultural program for them is saturated. This time German children got acquainted with Russian woolen boot and even learned how to embroider it.
